What do you think about soil, Soil is alive or Dead!!?

According to the scientist In just one teaspoon of soil, there are more microorganisms than people on the planet. “Millions of species and billions of organisms—bacteria, algae, microscopic insects, earthworms, beetles, ants, mites, fungi and more—represent the greatest concentration of biomass anywhere on the planet.”

So, if you think soil is a abiotic component and hence it is a dead element ;In ecological point of view this thinking is right but in microbiological point of view it is alive.
